Broomsedge is an easy-to-grow upright warm-season nativegrass with incredible golden copper winter color. The slender erect foliage is medium green until the flower spikelets with silky white hairs go up in late summer and slowly transition colors. Prefers full sun and dry sandy soils. Tolerates both drought and wet soils.
The Andropogon genus is a host plant for the Common Wood-Nymph butterfly and various skipper butterflies.
MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance. Cut stems down to the ground in late winter (February or March) before new growth occurs. Note: does not tolerate heavy mulching.
