Blue Oat Grass

Helictotrichon sempervirens

Blue Oat Grass is a cool season evergreen  grass with very narrow and spiky steel-blue foliage creating a porcupine like clump.  Spikelets of one-sided panicles open to blueish-brown flowers in summer and mature to golden wheat by fall.  Prefers  full sun and dry to medium well-drained soils.  Has good rust resistance.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low maintenance plant.  No serious pests or diseases.  Crown rot may occur in too moist, poorly drained soils.  Rust may cause trouble in humid summers.

LANDSCAPE USES: Accents or Group Plantings,  Borders,  Naturalized Areas,  Wildlife Gardens,  Rock Gardens, and Containers.
